kdb Encaustic Studio...
A few things you may be curious about. Encaustic means, to paint with fire. It is a process that has been around for 4000 years. I paint at 200 degrees and then fuse layer after layer together until the painting is complete. Encaustic paint sticks are comprised of Bees Wax and Damar Resin, it must be used in a well ventilated space. This process of painting requires Natural Bristle Brushes, dedicated to only this Wax process and a hard substrate, such as cradled Birch board to paint upon. This is a magical medium and often times it does not do exactly what you would expect. It is challenging and rewarding all at the same time and smells like sweet honey.
Come to the studio, kdb is happy to share the magic of creating Encaustic paintings, here in her mid-coast Maine Encaustic Studio.

The Studio and Gallery is open by appointment.
Every room of this 1847 home is filled with Encaustic and Acrylic Paintings and Photographs for sale.
kdb is in her Studio most days. She would love to give you a tour of the art collection.
This gallery is filled with art of all sizes and prices. It is all inspired by her many years long project, Wilderland Maine. A visual narrative of the Kennebec RIver Watershed, from the Merrymeeting Bay to the Gulf of Maine. Often times she will play the Wilderland Slideshow for her Gallery Guests. (A special collection of images through the seasons.)
Sometimes there is even Champagne involved. Stop in and see the work.
